Monsoon Kicking Up Your Allergies?

With monsoon season upon us, it doesn’t seem we are so much the valley of the sun right now as we are the valley of dust! Dust is so lightweight, composed of very small particles, and any breeze or movement sends these particles airborne. During this time of year, extreme wind blows walls of dust right through the valley and also blows the dust straight through our homes. Not only does it make it more difficult to keep the inside of our homes free of dust, but for many allergy sufferers, this time of year can be torture.

There are some easy remedies to reduce the dust in your home not only for this time of year, but year round, as well as alleviating allergy symptoms. Here is a helpful list of ideas to go through to keep indoor allergies at a minimum as the dust piles up more than usual:
  • Use a high-quality vacuum, and make sure the cleaning tools you’re using for dusting will actually pick up and trap the dust, rather than simply moving it around.
  • Wash or shake out blankets, furniture covers and sheets often to keep dust from settling on fabrics.
  • Invest in allergen covers for pillows and mattresses to keep these items from absorbing dust.
  • Get in the habit of inspecting the filters of your HVAC system monthly and changing when they begin to clog with dirt and dust.
  • One of the most effective ways to get rid of dust is sealing air leaks in your home’s walls, windows, and especially ductwork.
Many of us may feel overwhelmed by the prospect of constant sweeping and dusting and others may feel this only intensifies their allergies. Wolff Mechanical uses Aeroseal technology to seal air leaks in ductwork. This technology closes off small holes and cracks in your heating/cooling and ventilation ducts, virtually stopping extra dust from entering. It’s no wonder this is the most effective way to get rid of dust, as it causes less dust to enter the indoor air or settle on your furniture and floors.

Our goal is to help educate our customers about energy and home comfort issues. For more information on the Aeroseal technology to improve the air quality in your home, reduce allergens and save you money, please visit our website.
